Majoritatea formelor de recompensa si recunoastere se inscriu in doua categorii: formale si informale. Recompensele formale tind sa fie programe planificate, structurate, care de regula se repeta de-a lungul timpului si continua ani de-a randul,<br/><br/>Cum ar fi premiile pentru „angajatul lunii“ sau „vechime in munca“. Recompensele informale sunt formele mai spontane, mai imediate de multumire si apreciere sincera pentru o treaba bine facuta. Adeseori sunt pline de prospetime si amuzante si pot fi folosite pentru a recompensa un anumit comportament, cum ar fi serviciul clienti, ideile sau lucrul in echipa care duc la scaderea costurilor, sau realizarile specifice mergand de la completarea unui raport interimar pana la terminarea unui proiect sau ducerea la bun sfarsit a unei vanzari esentiale. In general, cele mai pretuite forme de recunoastere s-au deplasat de la cele formale la cele informale si spontane, si de la cele materiale la cele nemateriale si interpersonale.
